Whew! 2025 is off to an absolute whirlwind of a start! I have a few personal updates to share with you, some book news, and an update on my fitness journey! I also have a few reminders as well as a special gift for those of you with an eye for detail…make sure you read all the way through! 

Baby Update

We start, of course, with the most important topic which is the first three months of my son’s life that have already passed by! Monte Walker Porter is 3 months old TODAY and is already trying to sit up on his own, has the neck strength of a six-month old, is trying to taste anything you may be eating near him and is observing absolutely everything. I am a professional, I am a writer and I am a creator, but I am first and foremost a dad, and it is the title that I am the proudest of without question. Big sissy Brinley is doing WONDERFUL at being an older sibling and my beautiful wife is handling it all like an absolute pro. I do not know how she does what she does, I am just lucky to have her and my beautiful children in my life.

Fitness Update

If you read my first blog post of the year, I outlined how I am on a a bit of a fitness journey. The journey being losing 100 lbs. and getting into the best shape of my life. I am happy to report that I am down 19 lbs. from my starting weight back in December, so we are on a good trajectory. I plan to hit my goal by the end of September or early October, but these things cannot necessarily be rushed so we will see how it goes.

Funny enough, the dieting and exercise has been the easy part, it is the waiting that is challenging. I am used to trying to take off as much weight as I can in the shortest period of time, but I have learned from countless diets over the last fifteen years that this is a recipe for disaster. Instead I have found a process that works for me and allows me to live like a normal human, but it also requires the adoption of the marathon versus sprint mindset. It took a long time to get to where I am and it is going to take a long time to get back to great shape. Either way I am very excited about my progress and overall I am enjoying the ride. 

Upcoming Thriller – We never told

You have probably seen in other emails or on my social media pages that I am in the final stages of my eleventh novel, We Never Told. I have really enjoyed creating this story and, like with every new book I write, I feel that this one is my best! I plan to have the editing completed very soon at which point cover design begins. Although I haven’t settled on a date yet, I believe this book will launch sometime in mid-March! Here is a quick synopsis of the story:

Fifteen years after a devastating school shooting shattered a small Indiana town, a group of former classmates returns for the memorial fundraiser—a somber event held every five years. But they aren’t just there to pay respects. They share a dark secret from that tragic day, one they’ve buried deep, hoping it would stay forgotten.

As they reconnect, seeking closure and a sense of absolution, their past comes roaring back when one of them is found murdered in the hotel lobby. Panic sets in as they realize the truth—they can’t go to the police without exposing what they’ve hidden for so long. And whoever is hunting them knows exactly what they did.

With time running out and their numbers dwindling, paranoia takes hold. Is the killer an outsider seeking revenge? Or is one of them finishing what was started all those years ago?

Fifteen years of silence, now the truth demands a price.

More Book News

We Never Told is just the tip of the iceberg on what I have planned for 2025. I am already about 80% finished with my TWELFTH novel which is called Hidden Among Us. I am not certain right now, but my aim is to release that one in early May. 

For my fellow writers or any of you who aspire to write your first book, I am also chunking away on a non-fiction book that will be all about how to write and publish your first book. 80% of people want to write a book and less than 1% ever do. I want to share what I have learned over the course of the last seven years in hopes of helping you take the leap! We all have a story inside of us and I want to read yours! That book will likely be out in the spring or early summer.

This is a year of firsts for me and one of the projects I want to take on for the first time ever is writing a children’s book. My oldest baby is LOVING books now and I have some ideas on how to put some important life lessons into stories that she would enjoy, so I am going to try my hand at creating something that any child would be entertained and informed by. I don’t have a timeline for that because that project is BRAND new to me, but I am hoping by the fall that will be available. 

Beyond those items I have a VERY ambitious year planned for writing thrillers. I am looking at releases in March, May, July, September and one at the end of the year. I wont make promises because I also have some secret projects in the works, but that is my target for my writing this year.
